How LSP.expert revolutionized my business Or How I Took Control of My Day-to-Day tasks with a Single Tool

Greater than 3 minutes, my friend!

Note : This is not a sponsored post. It is simply a report on a powerful tool that could easily change your day-to-day life as a translator!

Have you heard about LSP.expert, the platform that helps freelance translators manage their projects and finances? If not, here’s a quick round-up for you: LSP.expert was created by translators for translators. In a market where most online platforms are designed for agencies or larger-scale vendors, this product is a very welcome addition for people working alone. Because let’s be honest, we don’t need a third of the functionalities offered by more extensive solutions!

How LSP.expert helped me take control of my day-to-day tasks and get a better view of how I’m doing professionally.

LSP.expert Dashboard

Your dashboard: this is where you can see an overview of all your projects.

Before: I simply used archaic Excel spreadsheets with an almost non-existent structure. I had to manually update them every time I had a new project, every time I issued a new invoice. Talk about painful, time-consuming and error-prone! I felt like all my data was scattered all over my computer and it certainly took me a while to find the one piece of information I was looking for. I definitely wasn’t in control of the administrative side of my business.

Now: All of the data related to my translation business is stored on one platform: my projects, my client’s details, my rates, my invoices. I can enter everything I need to know and remember about my project: the name, the PO number, the deadline, the area of specialization, a fixed price or the related number of words/hours and even some notes in the dedicated area (which is very handy when you need to remind yourself to check a term, ask a question to your client or make some final changes in the file). Last but not least, LSP.expert supports Studio matches, so if you want a detailed analysis of your project, it can do just that!

A closer look at an invoice

With a single click, LSP.expert allows me to see my monthly revenue, the number of words I’ve worked on during a given period, for which client and in what area of specialization and so much more! I can also create and send my invoices (in the currency of my choice) in a matter of seconds and see when the email has been received and opened. One of the latest additions is the time tracker: it basically calculates the time you spend on each task and generates beautiful performance reports that productivity freaks will love.

I can’t also not speak about the people behind the platform. It was designed by freelance translators and it shows: they have our best interest at hearts. I’ve been using LSP.expert since last April now, and I love the fact that they are very open to suggestions early adopters like me had from the beginning. Every time I had a question or faced a problem, they’ve been very responsive and have gone the extra mile to work things out. They also constantly strive to improve the platform, add new functionalities and optimize the user experience.

Now, I know what you might think: it all looks very nice, but I don’t have the time to learn how to use a new tool, let alone to adjust to a different structure! While LSP.expert has a bit of a learning curve, the design is intuitive enough for you to find your way among its numerous features. The team has also prepared how-to videos that take you through the basic functions of the tool.

The platform is exclusively available online which is great if you work from different devices or are often on the go – you can access your data from your laptop, your desktop and even your smartphone. The team also stresses the fact that everything is protected and kept confidential, something reassuring for people who are not comfortable sending their information on the cloud.

In short, LSP.expert has completely revolutionized the way I organized my business. After almost a year of using the tool, I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions I’ve taken so far. If you’d like to see if the tool is right for you, you can create an account and have access to all the features for free for one month. Beware: you’ll be addicted in no time!

  1. Thanks for posting Emeline! LSP.expert asked me to give their platform a try as well and it really looks great. However, I am not quite sure as to whether I should send my bookkeeping to the cloud and to a partner/server network that I don’t know but that offers a service for free. If they would offer a self-hosted system I would certainly download and install it (but there are many reasons why they shouldn’t offer it as well :))

  2. Thank you Emeline for sharing your experience. This product caught my interest no more than 5 minutes ago, while I was surfing Proz.com website…. Actually one software that can cover all aspects of our daily and monthly routines is fantastic. I still get crazy when it comes to invoicing… I still haven’t found (nor looked for throughly) the ideal solution that would work best for me.

And thank you Pieter for your sharp observations. I’m not fully convinced as well at the idea of sending my (and my client) information to the cloud…
I would prefer a computer based version of a similar service, too.

  3. Hello Pieter and Silvia,

I’m Caroline, the creator of LSP.expert. Thank you for your comments And thank you Emeline for your article!

I totally understand what you mean about not willing to send your data to the cloud. We chose to work online because it makes things easier for backups (you never lose your data if you change your computer of if it’s stolen) and updates (everyone always works with the latest version of LSP.expert), and because we wanted our tool to be accessible on PC, tablet and smartphone.

We take all the necessary measures to make sure our users’ data is protected in the best way possible (all communications with the server are encrypted, we work with a renowned cloud service provider and data is stored on two separate servers to make sure nothing is ever lost if one server has a problem).

If you change your mind, you know where to find us!

    Have a good day,

    Caroline

  4. I agree with Emeline, the tool is easy to use; it took me a few minutes to test it and I really like the fact that you don’t have to enter a lot of data before actually using it :-).

  5. Thanks for the pointer, Emeline. If a tool like this one would have existed 10 years ago, I would not have written an invoicing tool myself. I watched the videos and I can only confirm: these guys did a great job. Maybe I should drop my own development, and switch to this one. Really tempting.

    1. Hello Gert,
Oscar Wilde said that “the only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it” 🙂 Seriously, if you decide to give our tool a try, I would be glad to have your feedback, as a translator and fellow developer. Have a good day!

  6. Thank you so much for sharing you overview of this great tool, Emeline! Seems like it covers pretty much everything I wanted to develop myself (I worked on a design prototype for a project management tool for translators but right now it’s on hold due to the lack of funding).

Either way, I’m happy to see someone developing tools that are both useful and easy to use. Kudos on design too 🙂
