My biography and experience

Welcome! I’m Beverly Hayes. So glad you’re here! As founder of Spanish Connect Translations I want to inspire you to raise the bar for your business and help you develop a strong and trusting relationship with the Latino audience. My goal is to bring you the very best of my translation abilities while keeping it real and honest as I go. I couldn’t do it any other way! I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, better known as the “island of enchantment.” After attending my freshman year of college at University of Puerto Rico, I moved to the United States to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. A few years later I met and married Gene, a wonderful guy and business man from Oaxaca, Mexico, after which I worked on-call for over ten years in the Clinical Lab field, trying to be a stay at home mom most of the time. But as my children grew older, and knowing that the career I chose years ago was not something that I enjoyed, I decided to follow my heart and go back to school! On December of 2015, I graduated from New Mexico State University with a Masters degree in Spanish Linguistics. Courses such as History of the Spanish Language, Spanish Advanced Phonetics, Spanish Morphosyntax, Bilingualism, Spanish among Heritage Language Learners, and Spanish Translation, among others, helped me strengthen my strong speaking and writing skills in the Spanish Language. This attained knowledge was exactly what I needed to take my lifelong experience speaking Spanish into a whole new level. I currently work as an online instructor for Brigham Young University-Idaho. The course I facilitate is called Life Skills, an introductory course for the Pathway program that prepares students with the necessary college related “skills” to succeed in their educational journey. This particular course has a language component that I oversee to help them develop their English language skills. My online students are from all parts of the world, and I feel very fortunate to be a part of their educational development and to help them through this process. My husband, Gene Hayes, is my strength and my biggest supporter, and my children inspire me every day to continue to move forward and to never lose confidence in myself as I pursue this new adventure today. Something important that I learned through my own Masters studies is that the ability to translate well takes practice, and more practice. I had the opportunity to do a lot of research and writing assignments for many of my courses, and through these experiences I developed strong writing skills that strengthened my ability to translate correctly. I can confidently tell you that I feel very capable in delivering a quality product that’ll speak positively of your business and will make you proud. My upbringing as a native Spanish speaker, my college and job-related experiences, as well as my developed relationships through the years with many US Latinos from around the world, are a unique blend of experiences that speak for themselves.
