After 30 years in the translation business I finally see clearly what is broken and how to fix it. The translation industry belongs to the translators and translators should have the power to make decisions that affect their daily work and livelihood. I created Translation Commons to give a united voice, presence, community and safe haven to all the translators and interpreters in the world. Translation Commons is a platform to get away from the continuous financial exploitation of licenses, updates, upgrades and fees. In a world of open source software, why should the translators give away their hard-earned income and be dictated on what tools they should work or not? Translation Commons is a nonprofit online language community collaborating through an open-source platform of translation and localization tools and engaging in language related activities stemming from within the community. Translation Commons is a celebration of the language community and provides us all with the opportunity to access and collaborate with each other. By uniting our currently fragmented community into a strong supply chain we will ensure that all stakeholders and languages on the internet have equal support and all parties partake to monetization. Translation Commons is currently developing its web platform for translators and will be live by the end of 2016.
