From a very young age, I’ve been fascinated by language. Reading my first books, it was clear to me that words, when used by talented writers, had the power to transport us to different and interesting places. That was quite a while back. However, the fascination remains. Words have the power to inform, build worlds, connect people and present us places and cultures that we wouldn’t have access to otherwise. As I grew up and started to learn about languages and writing it also became evident the importance of translators. Translators act as communicators, as a bridge through which knowledge and information are transported from one culture to another. A good translation doesn’t sound like a translation; it sounds like it was originally written in the target language. It was with that in mind that I became I translator, educator, and writer: so that I could help bring people and cultures together. I’ve been working as a self-employed translator since 2013. I am also an intern at UNISANTOS and my main job there is to proofread the translations into English that are published on the University’s website. Some of my past translation experiences include: - Editorial translation of fiction and nonfiction books, from English into Brazilian Portuguese. Greater experience with horror/mystery genre. - Translation of general articles for websites and magazines, with a special focus on culture, education, crafts and entertainment. - Translation and localization of institutional websites for companies and NGOs. - Localization of apps for mobile devices. - Game localization. - Broad experience with IT, tourism, amongst other fields.
