My biography and experience

I am a fully bilingual and bidirectional translator of English and German. After an early childhood in East Africa, school in Germany, and university and postgraduate studies in Britain, I switched from Science (PhD in Biology) scientific, literary, and commercial translations as well as literary agenting. Currently a United States resident, I am firmly rooted in German, British, and American idioms. I have completed full literary translations as well as commercial and technical work ranging from presentations, training materials, and press reviews to correspondence. I am very adaptive and a quick learner of technical terms and jargon. True translation requires more than simply transcribing information from one language to another. It requires a nuanced understanding of intent and effect of language to reach a foreign audience the same way you intended to reach your domestic one, be that audience the reader of a letter, the larger audience for professional or scientific materials and presentations, or a wide range of existing or potential customers. A single misstep in tone, or misguided cultural reference can undo any amount of meticulously prepared information. If you want to truly reach someone in their native language, you need to also meet them within their sphere of cultural references.
