A few things about me
Find me on Proz
Is this someone you've been looking for?
I provide scientific and medical translation, proofreading and dissemination (EN, FR, IT > ES, CA; ES < > CA). I am an energetic and enthusiastic person, with a solid background in science (I hold a Ph.D. in astrophysics), who loves languages.
I am a hardworking, methodical and organised person, with a great sense of responsibility and a strong willpower. I am used to working both in small and large work teams, and I have experience in being the reference person in projects and/or collaborations. I am willing to learn new things and I am keen to embrace new challenges.
My rates
Every project is different and I'm afraid there is no such thing as a "one-fits-all" translation rate. There are literally dozens of factors that affect translation rates: the complexity of your source text, file format (hand-written and non-editable electronic documents tend to be much more expensive), how fast you want it back, your budget expectations, etc. Please, contact me and I'll be happy to give you an exact quote.

My education
My biography and experience
I hold a Ph.D. in Physics (specialized in solar astrophysics) by the Universitat de Barcelona, and I have several year of scientific research experience both at the Universitat de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain), as well as at the french CNRS institution. I also hold an MA degree in Specialized Translation by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain), which I have passed it with the maximum grade on my final dissertation (about the translation of the original subtitles from English into Catalan of an American scientific documentary). Currently, I am a freelance scientific translator and proofreader, and I translate for the on-line cultural magazine Núvol. I also collaborate with the NASA’s project The BeatifulMars Project: Making Mars Speak Human, as well as with the non-profit organization Galileo-Mobile and the NGO Naya Nagar. I have taught at the university, I have participated in all kind of scientific outreach activities and I have provided scientific advising in several occasions. I translate from English, French and Italian into Spanish and Catalan, and Catalan-Spanish and vice versa (both native languages). Thanks to the knowledge acquired during my scientific career, I am good at learning how to use new informatics tools since a large part of my Ph.D. thesis dealt with numerical simulations (I made use of several supercomputers and graphic visualisation software). I have worked with many operating systems (Macintosh, Linux, Unix, Windows) and I have learnt how to use different text processors (such as iWork, Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, LATEX, TextEdit, NotePad++, SublimeText). I have also acquired skills on translation tools (OmegaT, SDLTrados, Google Translation Toolkit), localization and audiovisual software (Passolo, Multilizer, Aegisub, VisualSubSync), as well as on project management platforms (Plunet, OpenProject). I know how to deal with different formats, both of the original documents to be translated as well as of the translation memories, glossaries, etc... to be used, and I have gained knowledge on the procedures to follow in order to carry out a good translation that is faithful to the original but with the natural and flow of the target language. During my scientific research career, I have had the opportunity of participate in many schools and courses, and I have spent long periods collaborating within international research stays. All this has given to me the chance of meeting and interacting with several different international teams. I have attended many meetings, presenting and defending my research all over the world. I am a hardworking, methodical and organised person, with a great sense of responsibility and a strong willpower. I am used to working both in small and large work teams, and I have experience in being the reference person in projects and collaborations. I am willing to learn new things and I am keen to embrace new challenges.
